Annual Plan
Key League Projects
For 2023-2024, The League will focus on the following five projects:
League Governance: Building a sustainable, solid foundation for The League
Oral History Project: Permanent Display of Lives Bound Together (the Oral History Project underway will be an ongoing project that ties into the permanent installation)
Audio Tour Project: The presence and perspectives of the enslaved represented in the Mount Vernon Audio Tour
Cemetery of the Enslaved: The final resting place of our enslaved ancestors
Social Media: Reconnecting families of the enslaved and creating new networks of friends
League Governance
The foundation of the League is based on good governance. This includes activities to develop the knowledge and skills of the leadership team while taking steps to ensure the financial viability of the League.
Social Media
The League recognizes that social media services, such as Facebook, can help descendants of the enslaved at Mount Vernon learn, reconnect, share knowledge, and build a sense of community and belonging, which can be especially important for those who may feel disconnected from their family history and heritage. This includes sharing stories, photographs, and other historical documents, as well as discussing the latest research and discoveries related to the history of slavery at Mount Vernon.
