Key League Projects
For 2024-2025, The League will focus on the following projects:
An ongoing project capturing the voices of the descendant community, publicly available in the permanent West Quarter Exhibit
The presence and perspectives of the enslaved represented in the Mount Vernon Audio Tour
The Ancestral Burial Grounds and the final resting place of our enslaved ancestors
Ancestor AI Portraiture Project
A first-of-its-kind, cutting edge project using AI for good, to bring the ancestors out of the shadows into full view
Permanent display of the Lives Bound Together exhibit and information center for The League at Mount Vernon
League Governance
Building a sustainable, solid foundation for The League. This includes activities to develop the knowledge and skills of the leadership team while taking steps to ensure the financial viability of the League.
Social Media
Reconnecting families of the enslaved and creating new networks of friends. The League recognizes that social media services, such as Facebook, can help descendants of the enslaved at Mount Vernon learn, reconnect, share knowledge, and build a sense of community and belonging, which can be especially important for those who may feel disconnected from their family history and heritage. This includes sharing stories, photographs, and other historical documents, as well as discussing the latest research and discoveries related to the history of slavery at Mount Vernon.
